What is tropical storm madeline?

Tropical Storm Madeline was a tropical cyclone that affected Hawaii in August 2016. It formed on August 28th as a tropical depression, and rapidly intensified into a tropical storm the next day. The storm initially had sustained winds of 70 miles per hour, which is equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane.

Madeline approached the Big Island of Hawaii on August 31st, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and high surf. The storm made landfall in the Kohala district as a tropical storm, with sustained winds of 60 miles per hour. The storm caused power outages, falling trees, and other damage, but no major injuries or deaths were reported.

Following Madeline, another storm, Hurricane Lester, approached Hawaii, but it remained offshore and did not make landfall.
